SnowCastle, Sampo Icebreaker, and Hotel Merihovi's stacked restaurant complex.

Kemi is the gateway between Helsinki rail and Lapland, and a town with one trick: the SnowCastle, rebuilt every winter since 1996, with a chapel, hotel, and an ice-walled bar. Sampo Icebreaker cruises from December run nightly tours that double as bar venues. The mainland nightlife is small: Hotel Merihovi runs a layered complex (lobby bar, sports terrace, restaurant) and that's most of it. Industrial port town that punches above its weight in winter.

Open Jan–Apr. Drinks in ice glasses, walls at –5°C.

Lobby bar + sports terrace + restaurant.

Cruises in season; the bar runs the whole trip.

Most action is in the SnowCastle from January to April.

Sampo Icebreaker requires booking 2–3 days ahead in peak season.

Last call 02:00 in town; SnowCastle bar closes earlier (24:00 typically).
